About Be The Game

History

The Institute of Urban Game Design was developed in 2005. It originally was meant to serve freshman and sophomore students at McKinley Technology High School. It has expanded to offer high technology STEM content to students across the DC- Metropolitan area.

Expansion

Be The Game's city presence begins with a central Hub site, 6 additional school locations, and a Hi-tech bus that travels to additional locations. This model can be repeated and scaled for new cities.

Faculty Development

One of the difficulties in expanding curriculum is finding and developing quality instructors. Students at Be The Game are encouraged to work on their own time to develop their own lesson plans that illustrate the concepts they have mastered in the classroom. This develops leadership and also alows students to make money in joining the Be The Game staff. Students identify easily with previous students, and the quality of teaching, and learning has improved as more students develope into instructors.

Custom Software

Be The Game has engineers who develope custom software to further the education of its students. This comes in the form of custom 3d open source games, plugins for existing software tools to help with education, and tools to help students get their content online.

Partnership

Be The Game has partners with companies who share their goal of increaseing STEM awarness through game design. Be The Game is always interested in developing new partners. Please visit our contact page if you are interested in forming a partnership with Be The Game.
